The Bordetella Vaccine and More

Bordetella bronchiseptica is a bacterium commonly associated with respiratory disease in dogs. It can also infect cats, rabbits and, in rare cases, humans. It is one of the more common bacterial causes of canine infectious tracheobronchitis, which is also sometimes called kennel cough. Bordetella bronchiseptica is one of several viral and bacterial agents responsible for kennel cough syndrome. Bordetella is highly contagious, easily transmitted through the air or direct contact, and resistant to destruction in the environment.

At RSK we have had numerous discussions with Pet Owners regarding the Bordatella Vaccine and the requirement we have in place that having this vaccine is a RSK Requirement for our services.  We also require the Rabies and Distemper Vaccine. Many times we are forced to turn away Pet Owners because they have not kept their vaccines current and in addition the Bordetella Vaccine needs approximately five days if not more to be effective, so acquiring the Bordetella Vaccine a day before or the same day you wish your dog to stay at the Kennel will simply not be sufficient.

We really do not like turning away Pet Owners so we are doing all we can to make sure everyone is informed.  As we do provide the vaccines, please take the time to check with our staff as to the dates involved in keeping your pets vaccines up to date.
